Refugee Week: Nael’s Art
This week we are marking Refugee Week, exploring the theme of healing by featuring the art and poetry of our interpreters. Nael was himself a Syrian refugee and now works with Clear Voice as an Arabic interpreter. He has painted since he was a child and his talent shines through his work.
My name is Nael Almajzoub and I am a Syrian refugee who was born in Damascus. I moved to the UK in October 2019 and I have started to work as interpreter since 2020 during my studies. I graduated in December 2021 and have been awarded a MSc in Finance and Risk management with distinction from the University of Brighton.
What does your art mean to you?
I have started to paint since I was a child and had my first exhibition when I was 13 years old. Painting for me is a way to express my feelings towards critical subjects. I always like to tell stories through my artwork. Moreover, some paintings are considered as friends to me especially during isolation. This explains the feelings in the artwork.
